No Plastic Rings: Share a six-pack guilt free

New design may save sea turtles, birds & other mammals.

Surf News Network, 20 May, 2016 – A small brewery in Florida is using an alternative to plastic six-pack rings, those loops of plastic responsible for killing and maiming a large number of sea animals.

Saltwater Brewery announced that it will use a six-pack packaging design that instead of killing animals, could also feed them. The developers of the fully biodegradable, edible (to sea life anyway) six pack rings say that since half of all beer six packs are purchased in cans that use plastic six pack rings, this alternative design could potentially save hundred of thousands of sea birds, sea mammals and turtles.

The environmental ad agency “We Believers” is promoting the idea in videos and online for Saltwater Brewery. While the brewery has challenged the rest of the brewing world to follow suit, there’s no word on any other companies using the technology.

To sell their notable craft beer in six-packs held together with rings made from byproducts of the beer-making process. These rings are not only biodegradable and compostable, but also edible and completely nourishing to any sea or land creature who might consume them. Saltwater has also challenged their industry peers to follow their example.
