TAVARUA/NAMOTU, Fiji (Tuesday, June 6, 2017) – The Outerknown Fiji Pro, Stop No. 5 on the 2017 World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT), has been called OFF for the day due to an inconsistent and dropping swell on offer. Event officials are closely monitoring a long period swell that is forecast to arrive at the end of the week.

“The swell dropped further than yesterday and the last couple of days,” said Renato Hickel, WSL Deputy Commissioner. “We are seeing the three-to-five foot range at Cloudbreak with the odd six-foot set, but there are really big breaks between sets. We are going to call the competition off for the day. Even though there is a small chance to run tomorrow and the day after, we are going to come back tomorrow for the next call. Stay tuned.”

Event officials will reconvene tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. local time to reassess the conditions and make the next call.

Elimination Round 3 will continue with big match-ups when the competition gets back underway.

After his first CT win of the season, all eyes will be on 2017 CT Rookie Leonardo Fioravanti (ITA) as he takes on reigning WSL Champion John John Florence (HAW) in Heat 6 of Round 3. Fioravanti has the opportunity to send Florence home with a second consecutive 13th place finish when they go head-to-head.

Round 3 Heat 8 will see 11-time WSL Champion Kelly Slater (USA) match-up against rookie Connor O’Leary (AUS). Slater will battle to continue his hunt for a historic fifth event title.

2015 WSL Champion Adriano de Souza (BRA) will work to claim the Jeep Leader Jersey for the first time this season with a strong finish in Fiji, but will first need to eliminate Stuart Kennedy (AUS) in his Round 3 heat.

When the event resumes, up first will be three-time WSL Champion Mick Fanning (AUS) against Michel Bourez (PYF) in Round 3 Heat 5.
