CASCAIS, Portugal (Saturday, September 24, 2016) – Stop No. 8 of 10 on the Samsung Galaxy World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT), the Cascais Women’s Pro, has been called ON in two-to-three foot surf at the back-up site of Guincho. Competition will get underway with Round 1 at 8:30 a.m. Women’s Round 2 along with Round 1 of the Billabong Pro Cascais pres. by Allianz are on hold.
“It’s tricky with the wind here, we’re in a really exposed spot,” said WSL Deputy Commissioner, Jessi Miley-Dyer. “We’re going to go with Women’s Round 1 for an 8:30 a.m. start to give it a little more time for the tide to come in. We’re also going to put Women’s Round 2 on hold along with Men’s Round 1.”First to take to the water will be Johanne Defay (FRA), Sage Erickson (USA) andCoco Ho (HAW) in the opening heat of Round 1.
The active pattern over the Atlantic through the end of September will set up overlapping NW swells for the first several days of the waiting period. These swells shows strongest for Praia do Guincho with small to minimal surf wrapping into Carcavelos during the weekend and into early next week (24th-27th). Beyond that we will need to monitor Tropical Storm Karl for any swell towards mid/late next week (28th-30th).Surfline.
