During the 2nd day of the Backdoor Shootout on Jan 5th, 2024.

There were 3rd reef sets like clockwork every thirty minutes and contestants had to always be ready to duck dive walls of whitewater the size of a house.

On top of that, there was a gnarly current that grew strongest during JJF’s heat.

This made it almost impossible to find a good wave.

In fact, John John Florence was the only one in his heat to catch a wave.

Suffice it to say, the conditions were extremely difficult and tricky.

So each one of these rides in this video means that much more.

These surfers had to fight hard for each one of these waves.
