EARLIER UPDATES:

DAY 2 IS DONE!

SURF WAS BIG & HEAVY … 8-12′ NW-NNW with some sketchy & dangerous sets, take offs, wipeouts and wins… the outer reefs occ. cracking. Even small Waimea was working. Perfect offshore ESE winds. Swell easing Saturday with good winds and more manageable size. SNN

WATCH DAY 2 AGAIN…

EARLIER UPDATES: Day one of holding period is in the books.

Sunset hit 10′ solid late today. The NNW got bigger and better all day until some perfection graced the iconic event again this year.

The swell should continue Friday with plenty 10′ sets to run day 2 of the specialty event.  More soon. SNN

Earlier update: 10am NW Buoys cranked 9’16s and Waimea 4′ 17s. We were blessed with a rising NNW from 3-5′ now. Expect a peak this afternoon 6-8’+ NNW at Pipe with lite ESE winds…Backdoor could see some perfection. We have 25 min heats starting with longboarding.  SNN

We have plenty swell during the holding period (January 4th-16th) for these 8 non-elimination team formats.

This specialty event “emphasizes traditional Hawaiian surfing style and places importance on style, power, and respect for the ocean. Surfers are judged not only on their technical maneuvers but also on their overall approach, wave selection, and ability to navigate the tube rides and come out with control and style.”

When amazing humans like Kelly Slater, Carissa Moore, Kai Lenny, Koa Smith, and Matahi Drollet lend their talents to raise awareness of our mission to rid the world’s oceans, lakes, and rivers of plastic pollution, we get inspired.

Our oceans shouldn’t be the final resting place for plastic waste.

The global surfing community has a large role to play in this long fight.

We’re committed to it.
