The Duke Kahanamoku Ocean Festival had as always, a large turnout, tons of fun & sun, trade winds and a little bit of surf through the 10-day celebration.
The World’s premier ocean sports festival is always held at the World’s most popular beach, Waikiki.
The festival perpetuates the life and legacy of Duke Paoa Kahanamoku. Our 6’1” 190-pound legend became the ‘Ambassador of Aloha’ and ‘Father of modern-day surfing’. Duke excelled in Surfing, Swimming, Tandem, Outrigger Canoeing, Paddleboard Racing, Water Polo, Beach Volleyball. And I am sure he would have joined in the new ways of riding waves like ‘Foil’ boarding and the Dog’s Surfur comp. 😊
There are over a dozen events including the Na Koa Wounded Warrior Canoe Regatta, Pacifico Longboard Classic, Raising Cane’s Going to the Dogs SURFUR comp, Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Legends Surf Invitational, World Foil Challenge, and Shaka Tea Tandem Surf Comp, Duke’s Waikiki Ocean Mile Swim, Florence Marine Keiki Kokua Surf Jam and Menehune Surf Fest. Outrigger Resorts and Hotels Beach Volleyball Challenge for youth and adult, Waterman Lifeguard Challenge, even Surfboard Water Polo and finally the Outrigger Canoe Club Beach Cleanup.
This list doesn’t include the amazing Opening Ceremony, event receptions, and Duke Paoa Kahanamoku Sunrise Birthday Lei Draping… WOW!
The Duke Kahanamoku Ocean Festival is a non-profit organization whose mission is to give recourses to help better the lives of Hawaii’s Scholar Athletes. For more info on how you can partner in this great cause go to Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation (“ODKF”).
Mahalo for all who make this festival happen and to all who came out to compete and experience the action. We will see you there next August 2025! Pray for 10 days of surf in advance.
