Kalaeloa, Hawaii (Wednesday, July 2, 2025) – The 16th Annual HIC Quiksilver All Military Surf Classic took place at White Plains Beach on Oahu’s southwestern shore on Saturday, June 21st, coinciding once again with International Surfing Day. Presented by MWR Joint Base Hawaii, this annual event brings together active duty and retired US Military along with Department of Defense (DOD) personnel for a day of friendly surf competition. This year’s event was dedicated in loving memory to Marvin Nuestro, the longtime Manager of the White Plains Lifeguard Staff and founder of the All-Military Surf Classic back in 2005. Marvin passed away in 2024 after a long battle with cancer. |
Greta Model took First Place in the Active Duty Longboard Women (18+) by scoring the biggest and longest waves in her heat. |
The event was held in small, windblown surf, which proved to be suitable for the longboard divisions, but was quite challenging for competitors in the shortboard divisions. Nevertheless, the stoke level was high and the vibe was positive for the 100-plus competitors, and their families and friends on the beach. The event included fourteen divisions, including shortboard and longboard surfing for both Active Duty and DOD personnel. |
Kyle Nicholas (Army) combined style and consistency to take first place in the Active Duty Longboard Men (30+). |
The coveted “Top Branch Award” goes to the branch with the highest combined score, based on the final placings of individuals in the top three places of each division. This year the Navy took first place with 33 points, the Coast Guard came in second with 25 points with the Army placed a strong third with 21 points. |
The U.S. Navy dominated the battle for the “Top Branch Award” with a score of 33 points accumulated from the final round.
