It was a Huge Success Thanks to YOU! Mahalo for your support for the Makaha Junior Lifeguards!

The program is Pau but will be back!

My friend Billy Pratt put it best when Mel first kicked off…

Aloha fellow Watermen,

I hope this finds you all doing well and getting some fun surf and/or paddling over the last few weeks!
I am trying to help Mel Pu’u and our Ohana in Makaha to raise some funds to continue to conduct the Junior Lifeguard program this summer in Makaha.
The City & County has only funded one week of this summer, and this does not come close to serving the demand for such important life training for the keiki on the West side.
Would you like to join me in donating to Mel’s non-profit Mauka to Makai to help continue the Jr. Lifeguard program?
I was thinking it would be a solid gesture of Aloha if we were to hui together and buy one week worth of training, totaling $6,500.00.  (If you care to donate more Mel said they are short a few weeks!)
I have discussed this with some of you and so I’ve included you herewith but by no means is there any obligation.
We all have had the opportunity to enjoy Makaha and guys like Mel, Brian and many others have always showed us plenty of Aloha so I thought I would try to return the favor while their community is in need!
Feel free to share this with anyone you think might want to contribute as well!
Time is of the essence according to Mel so please let me know if you would like to Kokua?
Mahalo & Aloha,
Billy

Earlier update

Makaha Junior Lifeguards 2022…Mahalo in advance for your help next year!

Aloha,

This past week, the City and County of Honolulu hosted a one week only Jr Lifeguard Program  to Keiki ages 12- 17 This program, operated by City and County of Honolulu lifeguards, focused on the dangers of the ocean, how to recognize and respond to drownings, how to be safe around the ocean, administer CPR, and participate in lifeguard training workouts.

The program was a success.

However, the need is great to continue the program and continue to educate the keiki in our community and get them involved with ocean safety awareness.

The Mauka to Makai Makaha Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation, would like to continue the Jr. Lifeguard program for the rest of the summer.

Therefore, we are seeking monetary donations to fund the program for the following weeks:

Dates left…July 5-8, July 11-15, July 18 – 22, and July 25 – 29, 2022

The budgeted costs for each week is $6,500.00. This includes insurance, educator fees, ocean safety equipment rentals, CPR/AED equipment rental, snacks, lunch (Fridays), and program uniforms.

Thank you for your time and consideration of donating to continue the program.

Please feel free to contact Melvin Pu’u, President and Director at (808)478-9086 with any questions in regard to the program, budget, or foundation information.

Sincerely,

Mel Pu’u
