The untold story. I toured the farm at Kahuku. I asked the engineer at full capacity of wind what level do the oil fired generators drop to. He said they still have to run at 75% power so they can power up quickly for the grid. So wind really saves very little when you look at oil saved. Now we just have 2 power infrastructures to maintain and staff so power cost will inevitably go up.

I have a degree in environmental science and have done specific research work on energy consumption and renewable energy. I completely respect the value of this sacred land to the locals who have grown up here and seen it get built up. The positive effects on the environment from renewable energy greatly outweighs the "negative aesthetic" value of the turbine appearance argument. To say the spinning of the turbines is a distraction to surfers is also a ridiculous excuse. When surfing, nothing else matters. It's a natural high like no other, where its just you and the water. A spinning turbine will not interfere with that bliss. Wind power and renewable energies allow the island to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and electric plants that have many negative impacts on our land and water quality. Thus, wind power lowers our own carbon footprint on the beautiful land and water that we cherish every day. By accepting wind farms, we will keep the country a cleaner, greener country.

Sure beets relying on more oil from the middle east that is only going up in price and lives cost protecting. Less oil tankers to potentially pollute or reefs that we relie on for recreation and our economic prosperity (tourists). Looks are not the best but it is better than an oil spill and more polution. Any electrical power plant will have some visual issues. At least there is no major impact on enviromentn if there is a failure such as nuclear, coal and oil have. Since they are all shipped and have by products that are very harmful.
