The Surfing Heritage and Culture Center (SHACC), in conjunction with Bruce Brown Films, will host a “red carpet” gala May 3, 2014 at the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort, in Huntington Beach, California. The event will be a celebration and recognition of Bruce Brown and the 50th Anniversary of The Endless Summer.
According to Paul Strauch, Executive Director of SHACC, “this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime evening for the surfing community. We’re going to reunite Bruce Brown with the film’s featured surfers, Robert August and Mike Hynson, the film’s original publicist, R. Paul Allen, and renowned artist, John Van Hamersveld, who designed the movie’s iconic poster,” Strauch said.
“Thanks to their combined talents and creativity, The Endless Summer ignited the imaginations of surfers everywhere and popularized the concept of surf travel.”
The event will also showcase the Endless Summer 50th Anniversary Exhibition curated by SHACC. This historic exhibit features original movie posters, artwork, cameras and tripod used to make the film, plus a rare collection of Endless Summer memorabilia items, many of which have never been publicly displayed.
"Bruce Brown Films is thrilled to work alongside the Surfing Heritage and Culture Center in presenting an exclusive 50th anniversary reunion celebration of The Endless Summer,” said Alex Mecl, Managing Director of Bruce Brown Films.
“With SHACC's recent acquisition of the largest and most authentic collection of memorabilia from the film, we are proud to support them in officiating this wonderful tribute to a timeless classic, and bring together the principals that made it possible for the world to enjoy many decades later."
