Slater & Taj Surfing the Slab "Ours" Down Under

"For the last couple of months, National Parks and Wildlife have had the gates shut to the entrance to the road that leads to the carpark above Ours due to heavy rains washing out the unsealed road," photographer Billy Morris explained. "Half of Australia is underwater right now with this La Nina pattern." "Word got out that Kelly was in town and would be surfing Ours," Morris continued. "Although it never really eventuated until the afternoon -- when conditions finally improved and the wind swung offshore."

While trying to get back out after snapping a board, Slater got bowled over on the rocks by some rogue whitewater. "The crowd went wild," Morris chucked. "After picking himself back up, Kelly turned and bowed to an applauding crowd."

Fresh off his win at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, Taj Burrow joined Kelly for some modest-sized slabs. "There was the odd one yesterday at another wave called Middles (up from Ours)," explained Taj. "I didn't get many but Kelly was very horny for the tube, he took off on anything and everything."

And this is why they call Ours a slab. Despite his super-human tendencies, Slater took a handful of beatings as well.

All in a day's work.
