Environmentalists are pushing to have barriers removed from Oahu's North Shore.
The Save Laniakea Coalition and several Laniakea Beach users filed a lawsuit Thursday against the state Department of Transportation to have them taken away.
The lawsuit claims the DOT failed to get a special management area permit and conduct an environmental assessment before it installed the barricades.
The state put in the barriers last month to ease traffic woes by blocking off parking. That's because the North Shore community had enough of people darting through cars while crossing Kamehameha Highway, slowing down traffic.
