Catching up with Bethany Hamilton

You might think you know everything there is to know about surfer Bethany Hamilton, but she’d tell you differently. Her story has commanded headlines ever since she lost her left arm in a 2003 shark attack while surfing in Hawaii. Her subsequent comeback to the world of professional surfing was the basis of the 2011 film Soul Surfer. And her 2013 wedding was blurbed in People magazine. As an inspiration to millions of people worldwide, it’s no surprise that Hamilton has lived much of her life in the spotlight.

If you missed it now you can catch it on OC250 Sunday!

See all the action of the Surf n Sea Women's Pipe Pro that Bethany won last month! The PWP will rebroadcast on Oceanic SURF Channel 250 & 1250HD all day/all night on Sunday, 4/27 (after the Bells live broadcast period ends).  We’ll replay it multiple times over the 12 mo. This is an ASP World Tour sanctioned event.

Every day is Earth Day with these 5 easy steps

We think it’s pretty safe to say everyone wants to help protect our oceans and waterways. If you don’t, well, you’ve got a cold heart, friend. You’ve also seriously underestimated how much we depend on having a source of clean drinking and bathing water, and a healthy, sustainable source of edible marine food. But we also understand that the thought of tackling the issues threatening these waterways can be a little overwhelming when you’ve got dry cleaning and deadlines.

Carissa Moore wins the 2014 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach

Surf News, 23 April, Bells Beach, Victoria - Carissa Moore and Tyler Wright took to the water in a rematch of last year's Rip Curl Women's Pro Bells Beach Final, with matching 7.50s to open their campaigns.

Moore quickly added to her total with a series of powerful carves on the open face, tacking on an excellent 8.73 to her score. The high-scoring battle continued when Wright unloaded her forehand attack with critical snaps in the pocket, earning an 8.27 for her efforts.

Wright's incredible commitment continued, planting herself on dry reef in an attempt to take the win, but the Australian failed to earn the score. Moore's win marks her second consecutive victory this season....

A message from Ron Iwami, President Friends of Kewalos

I was born on Maui and raised in Honolulu in Manoa Valley.  From a very young age I was drawn to the ocean ever since my parents took me and my brother and sister to San Souci Beach with its brilliant white sand and crystal clear water.  Today, thousands of people including my son and daughter live the “ocean lifestyle” for sustenance and pure enjoyment.  Here in Hawaii, we are all tied to the land and the ocean in our own special way, just as much a part of us as we are of it. For this reason, we all need to protect the last remaining shoreline areas of the State to ensure that this lifestyle is perpetuated for the sake of who we are to become as a People.

DEAL STRUCK ON TURTLE BAY RESORT LAND

Gov. Neil Abercrombie announced Thursday that an agreement has been reached between the State of Hawaii, City and County of Honolulu, The Trust for Public Land, and Turtle Bay Resort to establish a conservation easement on 665.8 acres of land at Turtle Bay Resort in Kahuku.

Portions of this land had previously been planned for development but will now be protected forever from future development.
