11th Annual Duke’s OceanFest in Waikiki

LOCATION:  Duke’s Kahanamoku’s Statue

The morning blessing saw a left over south swell for the HIC Pro Jr. Men's event at Waikiki on Monday. The forty Jr. Men took charge of the 1-3 foot dropping surf pulling off high scoring off the lips and 360 spins. As the day progressed the waves dropped and the Queens break gems were scarce. In a hard fought duel Luke Shepardson from the North Shore of Oahu found himself on top. " It was pretty small but when the waves came it was fun," explained 17 year old Sheparson....

Yikes; the next 4 days are tiny. The Billabong Pro Tahiti, Lay Day Aug 21 - View heat analyzer to kill time and see what you missed.

Surf News, 19 August, 2012 : TEAHUPO'O, Taiarapu/Tahiti - A lay day has been called at Teahupo'o this morning for the Billabong Pro, Tahiti due to inconsistent swell. The opening two rounds of competition have been completed in great conditions the previous two days, with some excellent barrel rides on offer and organizers are hopeful of resuming tomorrow.

"It's fairly small out here today and the inconsistency is the real issue,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “The models are predicting a slight increase over the coming days and we’ll monitor conditions and make another call tomorrow morning.”

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 6:30am to assess conditions for a possible 7am start.

Surf News, 19 August, 2012 :  I'm once again I'm on the ground in Teahupo'o covering the Billabong Pro Tahiti which kicked off on Thursday. I've covered this event every year since it was the Black Pearl won by a young Andy Irons back in the late 90's and it's always a pleasure coming back to the little village of Teahupo'o at the End of the Road.

Event is OFF for the weekend. Clean Conditions Ramped Up Performance Levels at Billabong Pro Tahiti Day 2

Fred Patacchia Jnr (HAW) posts a near perfect 9-point ride. © ASP/ Kirstin

Hawaiian Fredrick Patacchia (HAW), a former finalist at Teahupo'o, has set up a Round 3 clash with another former Teahupo'o finalist, Aussie Mick Fanning (AUS), after Patacchia today defeated Bede Durbidge (AUS) 15.50 points to 9.67 points.

Freddy was looking solid, combining some nice tube rides with some searing rail carves, to completely dominate the heat over Durbidge, and along with rookie John John Florence (Haw), is flying the flag proudly for the Hawaiians.

Conditions may not be death-defying, but they are still spectacular for surfers competing in the 5th event of the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour, The Billabong Pro, underway at Teahupo'o in Tahiti.
