Quiksilver Pro France - Round 1 complete

LA GRAVIERE, Hossegor/France (Sunday, September 30, 2012)

The Quiksilver Pro France, Event No. 7 of 10 on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), completed the final three heats of Round 1 this morning in shifting three-to-five foot (1 – 1.5 metre) barrels at La Graviere before calling competition off for the day.

North Shore locals weigh in about the Kawailoa wind farm project

A wind farm development in the hills that overlook the North Shore is being met with disapproval from some North Shore residents. When completed in November, the Kawailoa wind farm, which will contain 30 turbines and stretch across the North Shore, will be the biggest wind farm in the state. Proponents to the development argue that the farm will provide power for 14,500 homes and up to five to 10 percent of the island’s power, while avoiding the burning of 300,000 barrels of oil annually.

11X ASP World Champion Kelly Slater of Florida, USA (pictured) captured his fiftieth career victory winning the Hurley Pro Trestles defeating Joel Parkinson (AUS) in the final on Thursday September 20, 2012.

Slater was quick to put scores on the scoreboard taking an early lead with a 7.83 and capitalizing on his lead by sealing victory off an 8.67 (both out of 10.00). Slater’s victory today earned him US$100 000.

The Hurley Pro Trestles is Stop No. 6 of 11 on the ASP World Championship Tour and includes the World's Top 32 surfers plus two wildcards. Kelly Slater (USA) is the defending champion.
