World title race set to heat up at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal

Surf News - - The world’s best surfers are currently in transit from the South of France to the sand-bottom barrels of Peniche for the upcoming Rip Curl Pro Portugal presented by Moche to be held at Supertubos from October 10 – 21, 2012. Stop No. 8 of 10 on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), the Rip Curl Pro Portugal will culminate the Dream Tour’s European leg and play a vital role in the determination of the 2012 ASP World Champion.

   

World’s Best Junior Women Put On A Show at the Oakley ASP World Junior Championships Bali

Defending Oakley World Pro Junior Champion Leila Hurst of Hawaii began her campaign for this years title well by easily winning her opening round heat to advance to round three. Hurst defeated Joanne Defay of France and fellow Hawaiian Mahina Maeda.

Day 2 of the 2012 Oakley ASP World Junior Championships Bali saw the ladies hit the water for their opening round of competition today. Three foot (1.5 meter) right handers peeled down the reef at Echo Beach, Canggu, providing the perfect canvas for the women to battle to be the first ASP Women’s World Junior Champion to be crowned in Indonesia.

This month there is not one but 2 Full Moon Paddles in store for you.

The first Full Moon Paddle will be in Haleiwa, Sunday Oct.28 at Surf n Sea.

This will be the last Haleiwa paddle of the summer.

There will be games for the kids, food for everybody, and a costume contest with prizes for the best dressed.

And for the 2nd paddle, & the first time ever their will be a Full Moon Paddle in Koko Marina hosted by Hawaiian Surf Adventures.  This is sure to be a hit.  There will be food at the end of the paddle from Kona Brew Pub, a costume contest, and a lot of fun.  Call to sign up, space is limited

   

World's best Juniors light up the Oakley ASP World Junior Championship in Bali

Ezekiel Lau of Hawaii was at his powerful best, easily winning round one at the Oakley World Junior Championships in Bali. He defeated Italo Ferreira of Brazil and Kato Arash of Japan to advance straight to round three.

Surf News: - - The 2012 Oakley ASP World Junior Championships Bali got off to a flying start at Echo Beach, Canggu today. The world's best surfers under 21 lit up the 3 to 4 foot (1.5 meter) surf, mixing powerful and progressive manoeuvres, with all the surfers keen to stamp their authority on this event that will be crowning the 2012 ASP World Junior Champions.

   

Winter X Games 2013 UPDATE

X Games Aspen 2013, the premier action sports event featuring 200 of the world's best snowsports athletes, will take place Jan. 24 through Jan. 27, 2013 in Aspen, Colo. This is the 12th year that the X Games have been held in Aspen. The event schedule will be announced at a later date.

X Games Aspen will be covered live on ESPN's family of networks as well as on XGames.com and X Games social media platforms.

   

Will China become surfing's next frontier?

Off the coast of the South China Sea, on the island of Hainan, stands a 1,600-square-foot “surf facility” in an area the Chinese Government hopes will soon become a major surfing destination. The island, complete with its tropical climate, swooping beaches, and surprisingly hospitable lineups, has plenty of potential for fulfilling the government’s grandiose dreams of creating a “Chinese Waikiki.” There’s only one problem: currently there is no real surf scene in China. There are more than 1.3 billion people living in the country and only a few dozen of them call themselves surfers. But if the hopes of the Chinese government and a few major players in the surf industry come to fruition, all of that could potentially change.

Kelly Slater, reigning 11-time ASP World Champion, claimed his 51st elite tour victory today, besting Quiksilver’s wildcard Dane Reynolds in a hard-fought Final to take out the Quiksilver Pro France. Twenty years after his first professional win held in France, Kelly Slater adds the Quiksilver Pro France to his impressive list of achievements. Kelly got the trophy from 5 time world champion Stephanie Gilmore in front of an amazing crowd.

Alana Blanchard Recaptures 2013 WCT Spot

Congratulations to Kauai girl Alana Blanchard.  

"I've been on the WCT two times, and I'm excited to see all the girls again and travel with all the Hawaiian girls and just see everyone surfing at their best!" said an ecstatic Alana. 

 

The Women's ASP World Tour finished in August with the Nike US Open. There has not been a Women's Hawaiian Triple Crown for the past two years. And now the qualifying season has ended as well, confirming the 17 females who will surf the 2013 World Tour.
