Take 5 with Dane Reynolds

Dane Reynolds and surf contests don't always mix.  Back in the days when he was competing full-time on the ASP world tour you could expect one-word mumbling answers at press conferences, late nights out before early morning match-ups, self-deprecating post-heat interviews with early round flame outs.  He needed an IV before the only final he ever made at the 2009 Hurley Pro at Trestles because he drank too much coffee throughout the day and got dehydrated. It was refreshing to see a happy and relaxed Dane during round one of the Quiksilver Pro France. ESPN caught up with him after he beat Joel Parkinson and Bede Durbidge to advance directly to round three.

Quiksilver Pro France - Day 3

Quiksilver Pro France -- Day 3 Highlights

Surf News- - The Quiksilver Pro France completed the final three heats of Round 1 this morning in shifting three-to-five foot barrels at La Graviere before calling competition off for the day. The event went on hold following Round 1 Sunday morning in hopes that conditions may once again become favorable with the rising tide.

SURF- BETTER- NOW

THREE SURE-FIRE WAYS TO SURF BETTER TODAY

We caught up with Damie Hobgood recently while he was warming up for his heat in the France Pro, and asked him to give us some tips and insight into what it takes to rip in a contest, or for mere mortals like most of us, in the often crowded, crystal clear lineups here on Oahu.  How to stand out in the crowd and let everyone know you came to surf.  Here's what he said....

Quiksilver Pro France - Round 1 complete

LA GRAVIERE, Hossegor/France (Sunday, September 30, 2012)

The Quiksilver Pro France, Event No. 7 of 10 on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), completed the final three heats of Round 1 this morning in shifting three-to-five foot (1 – 1.5 metre) barrels at La Graviere before calling competition off for the day.

It's Brucey f*!#*n Irons

Mexican Death Art
No studio work, no interviews, no weird music, no budget. Straight from the underground where only surf matters, no apps, no phone, not your hair, not your attitude. More than a division.

Does Bruce really belong anywhere else? Threading through tubes is his sanctuary

North Shore locals weigh in about the Kawailoa wind farm project

A wind farm development in the hills that overlook the North Shore is being met with disapproval from some North Shore residents. When completed in November, the Kawailoa wind farm, which will contain 30 turbines and stretch across the North Shore, will be the biggest wind farm in the state. Proponents to the development argue that the farm will provide power for 14,500 homes and up to five to 10 percent of the island’s power, while avoiding the burning of 300,000 barrels of oil annually.

Kustom Airstrike - John John Florence's air earns him $50,000.

John John has been on fire lately, from his first ASP tour win earlier this year in Rio, to a stand out showing at the Nike U.S. Open, and going wave for wave with the big boys in Tahiti and Fiji.  His star is rising, and the Kustom Airstrike win is proof why.
