Sunny Garcia takes 1st Place in the Clash of the Legends battle at DAY 3 of REEF Hawaiian Pro

Curren, Garcia, Occhilupo, Jaquias complete round 1 of 3 for Reef “Clash of the Legends” Presented by Bud Light Lime. Surf was cranking 5-8' solid with challenging winds, waves and current. Sunny nabbed more and better waves than the rest of the field and pulled several patented under the hook hacks and flawless tube sense. Occy, Curren and Jaquias couldnt quite find the waves that wouldnt close out...otherwise it may have been a different result. Stayed tuned for Saturday's heat #2.

-- The 30th Anniversary Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, hydrated by vitaminwater, officially got underway on the North Shore of Oahu today. Organizers of the REEF Hawaiian Pro were forced to wait on Mother Nature before a solid swell increase at midday sent competition into immediate fever pitch.

With $250,000 on offer in this event alone, and eight rounds of competition from start to finish, much is on the line for the 128 surfers from 15 nations who make up the REEF Hawaiian Pro.

John John Florence & the G Brothers introduce double-header of surf films: Vans’ Gettin’ Classic 1 & 2.

John John, the oldest of three children, grew up at Pipe. He resides with his mother, Alexandra, and his two younger brothers Nathan and Ivan. He was introduced to surfing by Alexandra, who is a surfer herself. Florence claims he rode a surf board at the age of six months, wearing a life vest on his father John's board; he was riding on his own by the age of five.

Florence became well known in the winter of late 2005 and early 2006 when he became the youngest ever surfer to compete in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.....

Sunny Garcia wins the HIC Pro

11 November, 2012 - - Honolulu - North Shore surfing legend Sunny Garcia has won the HIC Pro at Sunset Beach, replicating a win he enjoyed here 20 years ago in the early stages of his storied career. Today he accepted the victory while holding his baby grandson, who shares his name. Garcia says his win today is the perfect primer to launch his bid for a 7th series title at the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, which starts on Monday.


Saturday is ON for the Vans Triple Crown with the Reef Hawaiian Pro.

HONOLULU - (Saturday, November 17, 2012) -- The REEF Hawaiian Pro returns to Haleiwa Ali'i Beach today with the top seeds in the Round of 64. Heat times are 25 minutes. Clash of the Legends Part 2 hits the water at 12:15pm. Waves are in the 4-6 foot range.
Kelly Slater and Sunny Garcia hit the water at around 10:55am, followed by John Florence, Dane Reynolds, Josh Kerr, Bede Durbidge....



"I've been doing a lot of coaching with kids so just playing the game, watching them play the game, and repeating back to them how to play the game helps a lot," said Hart. 

"It's not who you're against in the water - it's yourself, the ocean, and time. I try to tell the kids that. It's very important. Just making it out of every heat and having fun is the goal."
