In tandem with the busy Hawaiian big wave season, 60 big wave riders and industry representatives came together at Surfer The Bar, Turtle Bay Resort, on Friday, November 30, for the first official Big Wave Risk Assessment Summit.

The gathering, presented by WaveJet, was held in memory of Sion Milosky in an effort to make the big wave lineups a more risk-managed place for those who ride them. It was organized by two North Shore big wave riders, Danilo Couto and Kohl Christensen.

It's Official: Nike Leaves Surfing

Beginning in 2013, Nike will pull back their support of professional surfing and will shift all of their riders over to Hurley, which Nike purchased in 2002. The news came on the heels of an announcement in September that the footwear giant would no longer sponsor the U.S. Open. Come Jan. 1, all Nike head-to-toe sponsored athletes will officially move over to Hurley, and Nike will limit its surf sponsorships to footwear.

If this doesnt MAX out your WOW meter...check your meter!

After 6 hours of tow surfing, Garrett decided to paddle his 12ft Dick Brewer gun during the biggest swell of the year in Nazare, Portugal. He went for the first wave, missed it, turned around to paddle back out and was faced with one of the biggest waves of the day about to break on his head. He attempted to take his leash off but had no time so he went over the falls along with his gun. The Dick Brewer made it to the beach with GoPro still intact before Garrett came up for a breath. Thanks to his Body Glove Survival Suit and Martin Stepanek's Waterman Survival Course he came up with a big smile on his face and ready for more!

Postponed Wednesday. Day one of the Vans World Cup went off in 5-8' NNW+NNE swells. Next chance is Friday-Saturday.

Sunset Favors Experience at Vans World Cup of Surfing.

SUNSET BEACH, Oahu/Hawaii – (Tuesday, November 27, 2012) - The Vans World Cup of Surfing – the second jewel of the 30th anniversary Vans Triple Crown of Surfing hydrated by vitaminwater – hit the waves at Sunset Beach today in a new double-overhead swell. At this size, Sunset can be even more challenging than on the giant, life-threatening days, and a 30-minute heat can dissolve faster than salt in water.

Meet him tonight! Who was the 1st Goofy Foot World Champ? And "one of the greatest surfers of all time"?

Look closely and you'll see its Tom Carroll! And you can hang out with him at Surfer the Bar this Wednesday nite! Go HERE and scroll down. Few can hold claim to what this man has done. Along with thousands who've been around the sport for decades, Tom is one of my personal all time favorite athletes. He has been without question a living surf legend for 3 decades and continues to push his limits to this very day in death defying surf. Do not miss a nite with Tom Carroll.
