Postponed Wednesday. Day one of the Vans World Cup went off in 5-8' NNW+NNE swells. Next chance is Friday-Saturday.

Sunset Favors Experience at Vans World Cup of Surfing.

SUNSET BEACH, Oahu/Hawaii – (Tuesday, November 27, 2012) - The Vans World Cup of Surfing – the second jewel of the 30th anniversary Vans Triple Crown of Surfing hydrated by vitaminwater – hit the waves at Sunset Beach today in a new double-overhead swell. At this size, Sunset can be even more challenging than on the giant, life-threatening days, and a 30-minute heat can dissolve faster than salt in water.

Meet him tonight! Who was the 1st Goofy Foot World Champ? And "one of the greatest surfers of all time"?

Look closely and you'll see its Tom Carroll! And you can hang out with him at Surfer the Bar this Wednesday nite! Go HERE and scroll down. Few can hold claim to what this man has done. Along with thousands who've been around the sport for decades, Tom is one of my personal all time favorite athletes. He has been without question a living surf legend for 3 decades and continues to push his limits to this very day in death defying surf. Do not miss a nite with Tom Carroll.

Dont miss Matt Costa Concert TONIGHT at Surfer the Bar!

Take a nite with friends and enjoys singer songer writer Matt Costa at a one of a kind venue this Thursday evening!

When Matt Costa sat down to write what would become Unfamiliar Faces, the follow-up to his 2005 debut full-length Songs We Sing, the singer/songwriter took his most treasured belongings and put them on a shelf — then stared at them and just let the memories flow. “That way I could see everything that I loved,” he explains (the collection included his favorite books, a giant wooden pipe, and a box of old 45-speed records from the late 1950s). “I let my imagination wander. Regular life isn’t as exciting as an imaginary life.”

Sebastian Zietz (Kauai), Adrian Buchan (Aus), Gabriel Medina (Brz) and Adam Melling (Aus) in the 35 min final's 4-6+ NW swell: the Vans World Cup of Surfing

The VANS World Cup of Surfing pre-dates the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing series, this being the 38th year of the event. In that time, surfers from Australia and Hawaii have claimed 16 titles each at Sunset Beach.

Today's powerful surf with wave face heights of up to 15 feet favored those who have invested the time and relish in the power that this expansive, shifting lineup is feared for: predominately local Hawaii surfers and visiting Australians.

Surfboard fins - the ultimate buying guide

Fin setups are designed to get the most of different types of waves. What is the best fin setup for a small mushy wave? With what set of fins should you paddle out in a big wave surfing day? Sometimes, it's hard to pick the right fin setup for the right wave, but this chart will help.

More than 95% of the surfboards have five fin setups: single fin, twin fin, thruster, quad or five fins. There are new laboratory experimentations and adaptations with futuristic designs and innovative fin functions but, in essence, surfboard shapers work with five fin setups.

Shark deterrent technology - Facts vs. Fiction

With such heated debate about the conservation of sharks, and the natural desire for safety in our waters, the use of shark deterrent technology has become a necessary conversation that we simply must have. There is much speculation about the offered products, and for those that have that amphibious streak, there are a few pressing questions that are being asked:

Hawaii's Kelia Moniz Wins SWATCH Girls Pro China and the World Title - ASP Women's 2012 Longboard Champion‏

Kelia Moniz is the new ASP Women’s Longboard World Champion after winning the SWATCH GIRLS PRO China 2012 hosted by Wanning in 2-3ft (shoulder high) surf. In a repeat of last year’s final, Kelia faced off against Australia’s Chelsea Williams, the defending event champion, and promptly set about a commanding display of smooth, radical longboard surfing, mixing rail-to-rail lines and classic hang-ten moves to leave Chelsea needing a combination of scores (16.05 vs. 9.5).

Conditions today were super contestable with long, overhead waves that allowed maximum scoring potential.
