Translation: Blanchard’s spot has to be backed up with some substance. And in the latest episode of her “Surfer Girl” series, we get a look at how seriously she trains.

Follow this superb video with Jamie for 72 hours leading up to, during and after the 2013 Mavericks Invitational.

The word 'challenge' doesn't quite cover what it is to surf Mavericks. He recently competed in the Mavericks Invitational, held in a swell that was questionable as far as contestability goes. Regardless, the butterflies came swooping and the boat ride out always means a quickened pulse, no matter what. "Peaking" puts you right next to the former Big Wave World Champion as he experiences Mavericks and the range of emotion that comes with competing at a big wave event...

RANDY RARICK: A Lifetime of Surfing and Shaping

Most figures in surfing history tend to fit neatly into one category or another. They are either explorers, shaping virtuosos, big-wave hellmen or solid persons of industry. Randy Rarick spans all these niches and beyond.

Rarick dreamed up the Triple Crown of Surfing and with partner Fred Hemmings crafted the blueprint for the professional world tour. He was on the beach in Byron Bay when the shortboard revolution took root, and he has shaped boards for some of the best surfers in history.
