Two of Hawaii’s Top Young Surfers Play Surf Version of H.O.R.S.E.
Zeke Lau and Keanu Asing, two of Hawaii’s most promising young professional surfers, recently added a new dynamic to the sport of surfing with the game of S.U.R.F. Held amid the rippable peaks of Pool Bars at Turtle Bay Resort, S.U.R.F. borrows its foundation from basketball’s game of H.O.R.S.E. in which each person tries to mimic their opponents maneuver, gaining a letter for every missed effort.
“It was a lot of fun doing the shoot and surfing with Zeke. We’ve been best friends for a while so we weren’t taking it too seriously,” said Asing. “But it was definitely a lot of fun.”

Voted by Surfer Mag as one of the top 50 Greatest Surfers of All Time. The North Shore’s own Jock Sutherland – a big wave pioneer of the ’60s and ’70s – and his inspirational mother Audrey, who has paddled half-way around the globe in her canoe, penning three books along the way, share their stories of a life on the ocean that most of us could only imagine, at best. Both have defied the stereo-types of their time and illustrate the benefits of pairing ‘the road less traveled’ with a passion for life.

For Nick Riopelle, surfing is more than just a competition. The sport that was born right here in the Hawaiian islands has become a release, a lifestyle, a training tool, and a motivator for the transplant from Maryland.
After moving here in 2000, Riopelle made his way to the waves in Makaha. Though he had heard that things can be a bit rough from the local surfers, he took his board and paddled out head on into a life changing situation.
