. In the round three heat between Carissa, Malia and Pauline, Carissa surfed what was quite possibly the best wave ever surfed by a girl. Four huge open-face hooks and carves, tight, in the pocket, with excellent style and spray reaching the commentator’s building. She fell off after her fourth radical turn, as she was setting up for a possible fifth turn, and was still awarded a 9.90. Oh boy, the solitary wave that shifted a perspective.

Reigning two-time ASP World Champion, Carissa Moore, will face five-time ASP World Champion, Stephanie Gilmore in the first Semifinal of the Roxy Pro Gold Coast. South African, Bianca Buitendag will face Lakey Peterson from the USA in Semifinal number two when competition resumes....

3 March, 2014 - Coolangatta - The Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast was called ON today for Round 2 in two-to-three foot waves. Everything was on the line as the surfers hit the water for the first elimination round of the 2014 season. There were tricky conditions, with winners advancing into Round 3 and losers sent packing with an equal 25th place finish.
Mick Fanning, reigning three-time ASP World Champion easily dispatched trials winner Matt Banting in a one-sided heat. Fanning found his competitive gear, used his wave priority perfectly, and unloaded multiple trademark in-the-pocket snaps. Banting showed flashes of potential, but was unable to put a complete wave together, finishing the heat with a pair of 4-point-rides to Fanning's 6.17 and 7.50 (out of a possible 10)....
