Rothman Wins Billabong Pico Alto Big Wave Event
Surf News, 3 July, Pico Alto, Peru - Hawaiian Makua Rothman claimed victory today at the Billabong Pico Alto event in Peru, battling GIANT-foot surf and a field of the world’s best watermen to take out the first event of the 2014/2015 ASP BWWT season. Rothman’s “go-for-broke” approach in the Final saw the young Hawaiian net the highest scores of the entire event, showcasing commitment, strength and confidence in the shifting 30’-40’ foot faces (15-25' Hawaiian scale).

Surfers’ Hall of Fame inductee Carissa Moore
Surf News, 30 June, Huntington Beach - In the middle of an exciting world title chase, 2014 Surfers’ Hall of Fame inductee Carissa Moore will have a special ceremony held in her honor on Friday, July 25 at 10 a.m. The tentative schedule for the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing, an ASP Women’s World Tour event, shows Carissa paddling out for a heat at the time she would be inducted, hence the “early” ceremony one week prior to the more traditional event. Bob Hurley, founder of Hurley, will be presenting the Surfers’ Hall of Fame Trophy to Carissa Moore and speaking at the July 25 ceremony....
Green Alert: Big Wave Event Live, Thursday in Peru.

As a projected 35-to-40-foot ocean swell moves toward South America, the ASP Big Wave World Tour (BWWT) has called a green alert for the Billabong Pico Alto, Peru. 27 June- On the heels of Dakine's announcment that the brand was expanding into the clothing market, Dakine today named Albee Layer and Stephen Koehne as team riders. Both Hawaiian, the team riders are known as standouts in heavy surf.
Albee Layer grew up on Maui very close to where Dakine originated in 1979 and has been a team rider since he was a little grom. Over the years, Albee has defied the industry by living on an outer island without a big apparel sponsor, but has still managed to create a global fan base. He is the winner of the 2nd Annual Innersection and pocketed $100K! Albee is one of the biggest standouts when paddle surfing massive Jaws, Maui and he is the STILL the only surfer to complete a Ollie Oop 720. Albee’s ability to surf 2’ to 50’ can only be matched by a few other athletes on this planet!
