Bells Beach came alive with booming six-to-eight foot waves steaming through all Sunday. The Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach embarked on another solid day of competition with well-overhead surf in the Bells Bowl.

Jordy Smith was in sensational form, nailing a near-perfect 19.14 heat total for unmatched power and precision in the big Bells righthanders. At 6’2″, 190 lbs, Smith cuts one of the more imposing figures amongst the world’s elite and his dominant physicality is a huge asset at Bells Beach.

Carissa Moore (HAW), 20, has claimed the 2013 Rip Curl Women’s Pro Bells Beach presented by Ford over Tyler Wright (AUS), 19, in clean three-to-five foot (1 – 1.5 metre) waves today in front of a capacity crowd at Bells Beach. Today’s win vaults the young Hawaiian back into the lead on the ASP Women’s World Championship Tour (WCT) ratings for the first time in over a year.

“To win Bells is a dream,” Moore said. “As a little kid, you always looked forward to watching it and reading about it. The history and the prestige and the people who have won it are really legendary. To be a part of it now is really special.”

The ASP Top 34 returned to Bells Beach Sunday, taking on solid six-to-eight foot (2 – 2.5 metre) surf for Round 2 and the opening three heats of Round 3 at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach presented by Ford.

The second stop on the 2013 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach embarked on another solid day of competition this morning with the world’s best surfers doing battle in the well-overhead surf in the Bells Bowl.

Tyler Wright (AUS), 18, current ASP WCT No. 1, put on an inspired performance throughout today’s five rounds of competition, blending her energetic approach with unmatched power in the Bells Bowl. The young natural-footer closed her day out with a Semifinal win over a rampaging Courtney Conlogue (USA), 20, in classic Bells conditions.

Stop No. 2 of 10 on the 2013 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach recommences the hunt for this year’s world surfing crown and the perennial threats were in blistering form on opening day.

Kelly Slater (USA), 41, 11-time ASP World Champion, posted an emphatic victory over a lethal Adam Melling (AUS), 28, and wildcard Jacob Willcox (AUS), 15, in Round 1 of competition this afternoon. Slater’s commanding display at Rincon point netted him the day’s high heat total of an 18.07 out of a possible 20, including a near-perfect 9.70 on his final wave of the heat.

28 March, 2013 : Tatiana Weston-Webb of Hawaii and Leonardo Fioravanti from Italy have been crowned the Rip Curl International GromSearch champions for 2013. In wind affected two to three foot surf from Rincon to the Bells Bowl, Weston-Webb successfully defended her 2012 title, and became the first surfer in International GromSearch series history to go back-to-back. With the highest wave score of the event (9.33) logged in the semi final, Weston-Webb continued on to post the highest combined total of 17.26 in the final, to take down her opponents. Isabella Nichols from Coolum posted 13.96 to become event runner-up. Kim Veteau of France surfed her way to third with a 12.26, and in fourth place was local surfer Zoe Clarke of Jan Juc on a 10.66.
