Volcom Strange Brains webisode #7 - Nate Tyler

The Central Coast of California isn’t renowned a breeding ground for professional surfers, but obscure landscapes have been known to produce equally enigmatic phenomena. Nate Tyler is a testament to this fact, carving a career out of Morro Rock through oft-times cold, blustery travails. Nate’s style combines the elements of modern surfing relevance with a penchant for lofty front side punts and forehand carves, all of which are well-documented in Volcom’s “Creepy Fingers,” Globe’s “Year Zero,” and “Innersection.”

John John back in & Tiago Pires out at the Volcom Fiji Pro

The ASP’s 2012 Rookie of the Year had big hopes for the 2013 season. After becoming the first ASP rookie in men’s history to make a world title run last season, it didn’t seem too much of a stretch to believe John John Florence would be in the hunt this year. But in March, a bad landing at the Quiksilver Pro changed all that. Suddenly, the question was whether or not Florence would even be able to surf this year. Fortunately, according to Florence this week, the ankle is not only healed, but it’s feeling “a lot stronger than before the injury.” That should make things interesting at the Volcom Fiji Pro, where he’ll be returning to competition.
