Team Hawaii takes 2nd place at ISA World Juniors, but scores heavy in individual medal count

Following an amazing Final Day of great waves and exciting surfing performances, the 2013 DAKINE ISA World Junior Surfing Championship Presented by Billabong officially closed. Team Australia is the new ISA World Junior Surfing Championship Gold Medal Team and winners of the Team Champion Trophy.

   
   

Hawaiian: The Legend of Eddie Aikau

The late, great Edward Ryon Makuahanai "Eddie" Aikau  received the Visionary Award Tribute June 12, at the Maui Film Festival just before a special screening of a new documentary about the legendary Hawaiian waterman.

Revered as a true symbol of the islands' aloha spirit, the renowned big-wave surfer was the first lifeguard on Oahu's North Shore as well as a peacemaker between violently clashing Australian and Hawaiian surfers in the mid '70s.

Hawaii & Australia duke it out during Day 4 of ISA World Juniors

Nicaragua delivers epic surf for Day 4 of the DAKINE ISA World Junior Surfing Championship (WJSC). The swell, as predicted by Surfline, arrived this morning with waves in the chest to head-high range with some overhead sets.

The first perfect 10-point ride of the event was awarded to Australia’s Kai Hing, who launched a huge air-360. Hing generated great speed down the line and as he approached the closed-out section, he took flight, rotated 360 degrees in the air, and landed perfectly.

   

The Roxy classic wraps up at Queen's beach.

The 2013 ASP Women’s Longboard 2-Star event, the Roxy Waikiki Classic, kicked off the weekend with solid surfing from girls that traveled near and far for the only ASP qualifier in Hawaii. The final started off the weekend of pro and amateur events, and Geodee Clark was crowned the champion of the ASP pro division to wrap it up on Sunday.

Kelly Slater Wins Volcom Fiji Pro, Takes ASP WCT Rankings Lead.

11 June, 2013:  Kelly Slater (USA), 41, has won the Volcom Fiji Pro over Mick Fanning (AUS), 31, in pumping six-to-eight foot (2 metre) barrels at Cloudbreak, simultaneously launching to No. 1 on the ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) rankings. Stop No. 4 of 10 on the ASP WCT, the Volcom Fiji Pro saw several days of world-class surf at both Restaurants and Cloudbreak and a series of mixed results from the ASP Top 34 frontrunners shook up the current race for the ASP World Title....Current rankings...HERE
