Roxy Pro Biarritz Cancelled Due to Lack of Surf, Rescheduled for Hossegor

Cote des Basques, Biarritz Hossegor - After five days of minimal swell, the 2013 Roxy Pro Biarritz has called competition off due to lack of surf; however, Roxy is rescheduling the event in nearby Hossegor for September/October in conjunction with the Quiksilver Pro France, ensuring that the world's best female surfers will retain their scheduled opportunities to campaign for the 2013 ASP Women's World Title, as well as requalification for the 2014 season.

“It's been a challenging week surf wise, but the world's best female surfers have still enjoyed themselves in the beautiful town of Biarritz,” Jessi Miley-Dyer, ASP Women's World Tour Manager, said.

The only flawless heats in the history of the World Tour

In the entire history of the ASP, only four surfers have been able to put together a perfect heat. Kelly Slater and Joel Parkinson, two of those surfers, have done it twice. Here’s a look at the six perfect heats in ASP history:

Deep Water With Kohl Christensen: Big Ass Cloudbreak

Did he say, “It looked like the perfect swell to down there and warm up on”? I guess Kohl’s idea of warming up is dancing with the devil at Cloudbreak…

Big wave life vests reexamined

Kala Alexander gives the Patagonia vest a test on dry land.

There's no surf on the North Shore during the summer. Everybody knows that. So, figuring a few big-wave watermen would have some time to kill, Patagonia called for a meeting of the minds. They invited Mark Healey, Dave Wassel and Kala Alexander to stop by a Pipe-fronting rental house and talk about their years of nearly life-ending hold downs and how the safety of inflatable vests is helping better protect them.

Big Scores and Pumping Waves on Day Two of Reef Pro El Salvador

The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 6-Star Reef Pro El Salvador ran a marathon day of competition, with top seeds posting the event’s high scores in firing six-to-eight foot (2 metre) waves at the Central American gem of Punta Roca.

The Reef Pro El Salvador represents one of only three ASP 6-Star events on the 2013 Men’s calendar, playing a vital role in surfer’s qualification campaigns for next season’s ASP WCT as well as a spot in the coveted ASP Prime rated events.

Brazilian powerhouse Willian Cardoso, 27, reveled in the long walls of Punta Roca, unloading the day’s high single-wave score of 9.80 out of 10 with a strong display of flawless forehand railwork to take a commanding Round 2 victory.

Surf Legend Kelly Slater Attacks GMOs and Biotech Giants in Hawaii

Surf legend Kelly Slater has come out with a stunning attack on GMOs and their biotech giant developers’ seed patents. In his Hawaii video, produced by the Hawai’i GMO Justice Coalition, he also criticizes the islands for allowing GM crop trials on a large scale.

Kelly Slater states in the video that “if your father dies of cancer like mine did or if you have friends who are affected by having kids with autism you start to have a lot of questions, like where are these coming from? It seems like every day we are either learning about a new disease or a higher rate of disease in children.”

The young Hawaiian's shine at the 2013 NSSA Final Day

While having exercise bikes in the competitor’s area was a very earnest idea, it didn’t quite pan out as you would have supposed. I arrived at the scene just in time to watch two young men buck up and down on the bikes like inebriated sorority sisters on mechanical bulls somewhere south of Arlington, Texas. A crowd of peers watched closely, chanting and screaming. It appeared to be a competition, but I couldn’t decipher who was winning. As I stood pondering, a coed stampede of younger surfers scorched past me as they raced to the candy stand. Competitive by nature but frisky at heart, aren’t they?
