No seriously, you wont believe your eyes...or that he lived.

Most harrowing bodyboarding wipeout ever? Dan Ryan's epic thumping at Teahupoo featured in slow-motion video; he did not stand much of a chance, but earned lots of respect for trying. by May 13 was an epic day at Teahupoo, a Tahitian surf break that’s notoriously hollow and dangerous when a giant swell slams the region. To see how hollow, watch as bodyboarder Dan Ryan air-drops in one of the most harrowing wipeouts you might ever witness, in RED Epic slow-motion footage released this week by Greg Huglin (best-viewed in HD).

The first day of competition saw several upsets unfold, as a slew of top seeds went down to the underdogs.

Mitch Coleborn (AUS), 26, returning Volcom Fiji Pro wildcard and winner of the recent ASP Prime event in Brazil, was deadly in the Cloudbreak lineup, earning the first perfect 10 point ride of competition. Coleborn locked into a flawless wave seconds after the start of his heat and drove through two heaving barrel sections to earn the score. The Sunshine-coaster would back up the ride with an excellent 9.33, taking the day’s high heat total of 19.33 out of 20....

Volcom Strange Brains webisode #7 - Nate Tyler

The Central Coast of California isn’t renowned a breeding ground for professional surfers, but obscure landscapes have been known to produce equally enigmatic phenomena. Nate Tyler is a testament to this fact, carving a career out of Morro Rock through oft-times cold, blustery travails. Nate’s style combines the elements of modern surfing relevance with a penchant for lofty front side punts and forehand carves, all of which are well-documented in Volcom’s “Creepy Fingers,” Globe’s “Year Zero,” and “Innersection.”

John John back in & Tiago Pires out at the Volcom Fiji Pro

The ASP’s 2012 Rookie of the Year had big hopes for the 2013 season. After becoming the first ASP rookie in men’s history to make a world title run last season, it didn’t seem too much of a stretch to believe John John Florence would be in the hunt this year. But in March, a bad landing at the Quiksilver Pro changed all that. Suddenly, the question was whether or not Florence would even be able to surf this year. Fortunately, according to Florence this week, the ankle is not only healed, but it’s feeling “a lot stronger than before the injury.” That should make things interesting at the Volcom Fiji Pro, where he’ll be returning to competition.

With his result today, Coleborn earned U$ 40,000 in prize money and 6,500 points to catapult him up to number 14 on the ASP World Ranking. Too many jetskis at Teahupo'o - when is it enough?

With the amount of Jet Skis and testosterone buzzing around Teahupo’o during last week’s swell, you could’ve assembled a navy that would match Uruguay’s in any ocean-born conflict. The photos made it look like war —

Lets go back to the swell of decades...

Some deep carves and high airs all over the south shores for 10 days straight. Not since 1980 have we seen such a run of swell. It's was 6' and up for 8 days straight with plenty reports of 10' sets. There's were 3 storms with the 1st one having 2 pulses. Swell one hit Thursday 5/16 reaching up to near 8' at select spots (honest). This storm 'occluded' or stalled allowing another pump Sunday at about the same size. Then #2 storm cranked it Monday and #3 Wednesday. Thursday the 23rd still had those 6' bombs.
