Final Results: 2012 All Military Surf Classic
Presented by HIC, Quiksilver, and MWR-Pearl Harbor/Hickam.
The 2012 HIC-Quiksilver All Military Surf Classic was held Saturday, June 9th, at White Plains Beach in Kalaeloa, West Oahu. One hundred and fifteen Active Duty Military and Dependents competed in 1 to 3 foot surf in 15 divisions including Shortboard, Longboard and Active Duty categories.

When it comes to the current crop of up-and-coming North Shore rippers, Kalani Chapman is one of the best and most committed out there. Born on the Seven Mile Miracle and bred by its crew of elite surfers, Kalani has proven he is a force to be reckoned with by finishing 4th in the 2005 Pipe Masters and by coolly pulling into some of the nastiest beasts to roll through Pipe last winter. On November 16th 2007, he paddled out at maxing Second Reef on a three-inch thick 9’6" rhino chaser, shaped by uncle Owl. Story goes, he was supposed to wait for the swell of the year to paddle out on it. He sat outside long enough to get the set of the swell, angles into the beast, and holds his line through the meanest section in the business, flying out with gobs of spit. The wave was talked about for weeks as one of the heaviest in years.

Thank you to everyone who entered the 2012 Roxy Waikiki Classic! Registration is now CLOSED. All competitors MUST check in on site at 7:00am on Saturday, June 16th to sign their waivers. If there are “no-shows” on the day of competition, availability will be “first-come, first serve” on a waiting list. Waiting list will ONLY be available at the event site on day of competition!

Last week we decided to pack up the bags and head over to Tahiti for what looked like a solid 8 foot swell. Packing our boards with overly excited conversations of standing in 8 foot tubes, Conner and I got the final call that we were on the 4:30 pm Air Tahiti Nui flight to Papeete, Tahiti with Beau Foster, Luke Davis, Nick Rozsa, Zak Noyle, Janna Irons from Surfer Mag, and Shea Perkins from Reef. We were going to stay at Raimana’s house for a full week in seek of massive barrels.

To celebrate International Surfing Day Surfrider Oahu, Sustainable Coastlines, Kokua Hawaii Foundation,Method Cleaning Products, Barefoot Wines and Plastic Free Hawaii will be teaming up to host two clean ups along with a group surf on the actual International Surfing Day.
The Town clean up will be at Diamond Head on Sunday June 17th. We will be meeting at the main (newly renovated) trail at 9:30AM. After the clean up we will be treated to live music and food at Tikis Bar and Grill just down the street in Waikiki.
In the middle of the week (Wednesday June 20) is actual International Surfing Day. We will be figuring out the best spot to go, depending on the amount of people and waves, for a group surf and then hopefully continue the celebration at a venue close to where we surf.
