Portugal's navy honors Garrett McNamara

Portugal's navy has honored Hawaii surfer Garrett McNamara for riding the gnarliest wave ever and highlighting the science that let him see it coming. The navy awarded the big-wave surfer its Medalha Naval de Vasco da Gama in a ceremony this week in Lisbon.


Grant and Black win Molokai 2 Oahu World Champs

NSP is today humbled by the performances of two of its team riders who achieved the most amazing results in the world’s most challenging paddling race. 

Every sport has its pinnacle, in ocean paddling that is crossing the Kaiwi Channel between Molokai and Oahu. Surviving is one thing, beating the world’s best paddlers in a race across it is another altogether.


Shark attack confirmed at White Plains Beach


A surfer is in the hospital Monday afternoon being treated for a shark bite, EMS officials confirm to Hawaii News Now.

According to an EMS spokesperson, a male was in the water at Oahu's White Plains Beach when a shark bit his right leg.

UH Student/Pro Surfer Kylen Yamakawa finishes Runner-Up at the ASP 4-Star WQS "Billabong Tahara Pro"

Tahara, Japan (July 28, 2013):  With 1 minute left in the Semifinal #1 Heat, Kylen Yamakawa is behind Shun Murakami and needs a 6.21 score to advance into the Grand Final of the biggest International surfing event in Japan, the ASP 4-Star WQS Billabong Tahara Pro.  With the announcers counting the heat down, Kylen paddles into a wave and executes the biggest Air Reverse of the Event!  The judges reward him with a 7.0 and he earns his spot in the Final of the Billabong Tahara Pro.  He's tackled with hugs by travel partners Cole Yamakawa and Kai Matsumoto on the beach and during his post-heat interview, Kylen is overwhelmed with tears and emotion of accomplishing a lifelong dream of every pro surfer, making the "podium" at a big pro surfing event.  


Carissa Moore & Alejo Muniz take 1st place at the Vans US open

Carissa Moore (HAW), 20, has won the Vans US Open of Surfing over local favorite Courtney Conlogue (USA), 20, in peaky one-to-three foot (1 metre) waves at Huntington Beach Pier, taking the No. 1 position on the ASP Women’s World Title Race.

Stop No. 6 of 8 on the 2013 ASP Women’s World Championship Tour (WCT), the Vans US Open of Surfing plays both a crucial role in deciding the 2013 Women’s World Champion and qualification for next season’s ASP Top 17.
