You’ve gotta respect a man who speaks his mind, and Freddy P. doesn’t stutter. Nope. He’s got a way with words and that smiley charisma that lets him mostly get away with the envelope-pushing phrases that exit his mouth, so we were excited to sit down with him for a minute on the North Shore. Turns out, keeping a bald head shiny requires a solid BIC-ing every two days, happiness is single-ness, and Freddy’s keen on putting the “pro” back in pro surfer.
It’s not big, and it’s not fast, but it’s in celebration of King Kamehameha Day with the good island vibes to go alongside a relaxed exploration of Mason Ho’s Oahu. Carissa Moore, Zeke Lau, Josh and Seth Moniz, Noah Beschen, Cheeseburger, and Uncle Mike all make appearances, with the breaks ranging from flat Rocky Point and Off the Wall to Ala Moana, Kewalo’s, and Ehukai.

Remember when you’d pal around with buddies on the weekend, shooting hoops or chucking the football, dreaming about taking to the court or field in the big game? Well, this is that to the extreme, and the likes of the Christensen and Walsh brothers, Ben Wilkinson, Mark Healey, Albee Layer, and Billy Kemper are already in the “big game.”
The eighth annual All-Military Surf Classic, Presented by HIC, Quiksilver and MWR brought active US Military and Department of Defense personnel, retirees, and their families together for a day of sun, surf and competition this past Saturday, June 7th. The event was held at White Plains Beach which is located on the former Barber's Point Naval Air Base in Kalaeloa, Hi, on Oahu’s south-west shore. Although small surf and strong winds created challenging conditions throughout the event, the level of stoke amongst the competitors and fans couldn’t have been greater.
Kamehameha the Great.
In ancient Hawaii, legends told of a day when a great king would unite all the Hawaiian islands. The sign of his birth, kahuna (priests) claimed, would be a comet. Birth of a King.
And so it goes that Kamehameha was born in 1758, the year Halley’s Comet made an appearance over Hawaiian skies. Kamehameha was born in Paiea on the Big Island of Hawaii. His father was said to be Keoua, a grandson of Keaweikekahialiiokamoku, who once ruled a large portion of the island. Translated, Kamehameha means “the lonely one.”....
