Happy Century + Decade to our wonderful Waikiki Aquarium

Whats underneath our waves we ride? Another world...deeply connected and dependent on us.

This month makes 110 years! The Waikiki Aquarium has a long and venerable history. Open on March 19, 1904, it is the second-oldest public aquarium in the United States. Then known as the Honolulu Aquarium, it was established as a commercial venture by the Honolulu Rapid Transit and Land Company, who wished to “show the world the riches of Hawaii’s reefs.”

Kekoa "BAM" Bacalso bursted onto the competitive scene winning everything. Ian Walsh's Menehune Mayhen went off this weekend on Maui

Menehune Mayhem was created with Fox’s support as a way of giving back to the children and teens of Maui. It’s a free one-day event for kids seventeen and under, and it showcases what the sport and surf culture in general have to offer on Maui. This year was the 11th annual event, and it went off without a hitch.

Bethany Hamilton Carves Giant Snaps Landing an Over Due Win at the Pipeline

It was another waiting game for the Surf n Sea Pipeline Womens Pro. As time wound down only one day remained in the waiting period and a nice spring swell was the call of the day for the ASP one star event. Surf was 3-5 foot with rights and lefts coming into the break, not a typical Pipeline situation but great waves none the less. The ladies pulled off some hard snaps and a few cover ups in the disorganized surf and were impressive. The first heat was the indicator, Bethany Hamilton was on fire pulling some giant snaps in both directions and snagging a cover up.  She was after the Banzai Sushi award for the best tube ride right off the bat. Moana Jones was kicking her tail right behind the Kauai native. Jones pulled off some great turns to advance!

It definitely PAYS to be a pro surfer these days. This top 10 list will make you drool.

Oh, to be John John Florence and to cup the surfing sphere in your pink palm. Mr Florence lands at number one because he owns surfing’s biggest-ever contract. If you wanna make your company look intensely good, then aligning yourself with John is a great place to start. There’s a lot of reasons why, but let’s zoom one very specific occurrence: This week, John John dropped his latest edit, & Again. And as of writing, 20 hours after the fact, the vimeo play count is steaming north of 65k plays with embeds on the URL of every major surf media portal in the world. That sounds like money-can’t-buy representation, but it ain’t: A five-year, $3.2 million per-year contract (totalling $16 million) aligned Hurley with the world’s most marketable surfer right now. And, the acquisition was squeezed onto what was already the world’s largest surfer endorsement program. Worth every penny....

Water-saving tips for World Water Day this Saturday March 22nd and beyond

Lets not forget about the water that keeps alive. Life dies without it...quickly. Indeed, water is second only to oxygen.

Freewaters offers up water-saving tips, announces contest

17 March. There's no shortage of ways to conserve water resources and help those who need clean drinking water. Here's a few easy tips below to get started today.

Go Meatless More Often: “Food accounts for at least half of your water footprint,” says Kai Olson-Sawyer, a research and policy analyst at Grace Communications Foundation. “Eating less meat is the key to reducing it, because of all the water needed to raise the livestock.” Start by skipping red meat more often. It takes 1,857 gallons of water to produce a single pound of beef. Pork, chicken, and lamb require much less....

Was breathing one of the keys to Mick's 3rd World Title?

Catch RedBulls story and Workout of the Week: Mick Fanning on breathing. Something all of us can likely use to our greater benefit.

Oxygen is the key to life. We know that right? But how much do we know about the mechanics of breathing and of our mostly unawakened capabilities?

If you're like most, a five-second wipeout has you close to panic and desperately swallowing air when you do surface. Imagine if you could take a two-wave, one-minute hit on the head without punching the panic button...

We lost a good soldier this weekend - R.I.P. Clark Takashima

Story by TheInertia.com

Hawaii’s most beloved surf artist, Clark Takashima, passed away due to a heart attack. I found out late this morning after a morning scope of my Instagram feed led me to Sunny Garcia’s page who dedicated a post to Clark. He was far too young, passionate and bright, and he will be missed by all who knew him and/or his artwork.
