Then I started thinking that Ian is one of those guys that I’ve watched a million times, and at least half of those times I’ve either made a whimpering noise or had to look away.

But apart from seeing him throw himself into some of the biggest waves the planet has to offer, I didn’t know that much about him. He was from Maui – I knew that much. He surfs waves that I can’t even wrap my head around unless I’ve been drinking too much – I also knew that. And then there was something about an inflatable hotdog at Jaws,

SUP World Tour Day 1 Recap form Turtle Bay

Day 1 Highlights Include Womens, Youth, and Legends Event

Stormy conditions have been covering the North Shore for most of the previous week.  This morning saw the conditions improving as the wind began to settle down and the waves cleaned up to provide consistent 5-7 foot faces at the "Pool Bars" break at Turtle Bay Resort.

It was a fun day of competition and exhibition today as we saw the first two women's heats, competition between under-16 youth and a special exhibition from some living surfing legends.  Na Kama Kai also held a youth clinic to teach the next generation the necessary skills to excel in the ocean.

Snowboarders are a surfers favorite cousin

It was a moment both humbling and historic for 20-year-old Sage Kotsenburg Saturday afternoon. In the first-ever medal event of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, he earned the first gold not just from Sochi, but the first ever in snowboard slopestyle’s Olympic debut. And he did it his way, with inventive runs that made an impression on the judges—like hisHoly Crail, a trick that he invented this past fall in hopes of becoming a contender.
