GoPro on 60 Minutes



“GoPros may be the perfect cameras for a self-obsessed and selfie obsessed generation.” Truer words may have never come out of Anderson Cooper’s mouth. 60 Minutes profiled GoPro and Cooper sat down with Nick Woodman, CEO of the now billion-dollar company, to talk about how the “everything camera” got its legs, who uses it, what it can do, and where they are headed.


Big Wave Surfer Kirk Passmore is still missing. Family issues statement.

The search continues for Kirk.

He was reported missing at about 11:20 a.m. Wednesday in an area known as  "Alligator Rock" outer reef.

According to the Coast Guard, the surfer, identified as Kirk Passmore of Haleiwa, was last seen wearing black board shorts and no shirt. Passmore is 32 years old and has red hair. His broken surfboard was located onshore.


Takayama & Surftech to cut business ties.

Eventually Surtech will discontinue Takayama brands

12 November. After a long and mutually beneficial business relationship, Surf Technicians LLC (“Surftech”) and the Takayama Family Trust (“Takayama”) have decided to provide for an orderly and amicable transition out of their relationship.

Surftech and Takayama have agreed that through September 24, 2014, Surftech will continue to sell Takayama designed and trademarked boards variously branded: HAWAIIAN PRO DESIGNS, HPD, Shapes and Designs by Donald Takayama & bird design, through all of Surftechʼs channels of distribution, on a non-exclusive basis, but thereafter Surtech will discontinue those brands.

The contest returns just as winter swells begin to pound Oahu’s North Shore, signaling the start of a promising Pipeline season. With the DNA of a Sunset Beach surfing champion, 25-year-old Mason Ho followed his father Michael's legendary footprints to post his first ASP victory in the HIC Pro. His dad won this particular event four times between 1988 and 1996, and now Mason becomes the 30th name on the HIC Pro winner's cup. His win earns him $15,000; takes him to No.1 on the ASP Hawaii regional rankings; and earns him a wildcard into the Round of 64 of the first two events of the prestigious Vans Triple Crown of Surfing that starts next Tuesday.


Local boy Mo Freitas caps an incredible year with Na Kama Kai win

Mo Freitas (Focus SUP/Body Glove) will start the year officially as an adult in 2014, but not before his last powerful performance in the Na Kama Kai Youth event here at the La Torche Pro France presented by Naish and Twenty-Nine.

Mo has been on fire all year this year, both on the World Surfing Tour, but also World Racing Series, as he makes it another win here in the Na Kama Kai Youth Challenge in France, amidst intense competition from Tahiti, Brazil, France, Denmark, the US and beyond.

Aaron Gold makes Eddie invite list

The 29th annual Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau, the original one-day big wave invitational surfing event that requires waves measuring in excess of 20 feet, is excited to announce the list of 2013/14 Invitees and Alternates. The holding period for the event begins on December 1, 2013, and concludes on February 28, 2014. The official Opening Ceremony with the Aikau Family will be held on Thursday, December 5th, 3pm, at Waimea Bay.

5 November. Pyzel Surfboards announces the re-launch of their Pyzel Surfboards App for iPhone. The newly updated app allows users to locate the nearest dealer or order a custom board through the store.

The new store locator feature allows you to search through the dealers by country or select the “Nearby” option to find a list of the nearest dealers to your current location. The newly updated app also allows users to view vital information for all types of boards.


Gabriel Medina takes ASP World Junior Champs

World Tour competitor claims Men's ASP World Junior Title

Gabriel Medina (BRA), 19, has claimed the 2013 Men's ASP World Junior Title by winning the HD World Junior Championships presented by Devassa over Ramzi Boukhiam (MAR), 20, in a high-scoring Final at Joaquina Beach in Florianopolis, Brazil.
