Stop #3 - The Billabong Pipeline Masters - Dec.8th-20th

The Billabong Pipe Masters is the quintessential event in professional surfing and Pipeline is the Holy Grail of waves by which all others are measured. The third and final jewel in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, the Pipe Masters is one of the longest running events in professional surfing, even pre-dating the Triple Crown by more than a decade.

Ezekiel Lau wins it!

Hawaii's own Ezekiel Lau, 20, posted the largest victory of his young career today by winning the prestigious 39th annual VANS World Cup of Surfing at Sunset Beach - the second stop of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing hydrated by vitaminwater®. Lau's win earned him $40,000 and sees him close the year at 35th position on the ASP world rankings. While that doesn't qualify him for next year's elite World Championship Tour, it does guarantee him an excellent seed. He also holds a shared lead on the coveted Vans Triple Crown series rankings with Michel Bourez (Tahiti) heading into the third and final event of the series - the Billabong Pipe Masters, where he is a local wildard entry.

Make sure the DOT & C&C know how we REALLY feel tomorrow Sunday Dec. 8th

The Surfrider Foundation Oahu Chapter will join the North Shore groups End Turtle Traffic, DaHui and other concerned citizens to host a protest rally on Sun., Dec. 1, from 10:00am-noon, at Laniakea (aka., Lani’s) on Oahu’s North Shore.  The rally will go on all day (9am-5pm), and its purpose is to protest the plans of the Dept. Of Transportation (DOT) to put in concrete barricades to block off beach access to the Laniakea Beach Support Park, an undeveloped park owned by the City & County of Honolulu.

South Africa's Beyrick De Vries, 20, will be riding high for days after living a moment of perfection at Sunset Beach during the Vans World Cup of Surfing today. In a late afternoon heat, on a triple overhead wave, De Vries scored the event's only perfect 10 to date for a huge, deep tube ride that has been tagged the best barrel ever surfed on Sunset's west peak during competition. The surf was absolutely perfect for most of the day, peaking with wave face heights of up to 25 feet and light offshore winds.

Heavy Sunset Beach has surfers pushing limits for Black Friday.

HONOLULU - (Friday, Nov. 29, 2013) -- A macking NW swell with wave face heights of up to 20 feet on the inside has set an intimidating stage for the VANS World Cup of Surfing today. At the upper limit of its range, Sunset Beach is one of the most challenging waves on the planet. It will surely be daunting for the younger set of competitors who will hit the water this-morning, including 16-year-olds Kalani David & Seth Moniz (Hawaii), and 19-year-old Cooper Chapman (Australia).  Competition is underway at 8am, with the peak of the swell due late morning. Some history & insight into Sunset Beach

Sunset Beach is one of the most famous big wave surfing spots on the North Shore of Oahu. Between the 1950s and the 1980s, it was considered the ultimate test and the most important surf beach in the world.

Originally named "Paumalu", Sunset Beach offers a dangerous lava-rock reef and, at least, six wave peaks: Val's Reef, The Bowl, West Peak, Sunset Point, & The North Wall.

"There are so many good waves, I just got into a rhythm," said Seth. "I got my first (score of) six and then I just kept moving up from there. It's fun. "I've been surfing this break since I was 10, and this is such a great event to do. I love it when it's just fun and playful. My dad knows a lot about these breaks so he shares with us. It's good to have him around, he just knows what boards to ride." Get the whole scoops inside.

'Talk Story' this Wednesday with Tony Harrington at Surfer the Bar

“Whether you are 8 or 80 years old, if you love to surf, you love getting barrelled; that’s what we go into the water seeking each day and talk about each afternoon,” explained Tony “Harro” Harrington, the project director.

“At its core, surfing is all about the barrel and now there is the technology to allow surfers to shoot and share their experiences from the very heart of waves. We’ll be ‘sharing the stoke’ here at and are overwhelmed at the amount of great barrels we already have lined up for the website kick off.”
