The 8th annual Kona Surf Film Festival celebrates a huge night

10 December, 2011 : - - The 8th Annual Kona Surf Film Festival really went off! I'm still a bit frazzled from the weekend, so I'm pretty sure that it was the busiest and best year we've had. By quite a margin. Yeah. We had a bunch of movies on two screens, visits from Shane Dorian, Rob Machado, Mike Stewart Mark Cunningham, and Mayor Billy Kenoi.

We had music from Leche De Tigre, Kimie Miner, and a surprise jam mashup from members of Pepper and Iration. We had art and breakdancers and beer and food and the overall mellow chaos that is the Kona Surf Film Festival.

The best surf comics in the world

Surf comics are a great way of pumping a surfer's heart. Dream barrels are always possible when you see yourself in a surf comic strip. Fun, color, hilarious gags and unique pieces of surf culture history.

Surf comics are not very common in surf magazines. There are a lot of great strips with loads of famous surfing cathphrases, but they seem to be a little bit repetitive. Drawings are copied and pasted and then only the words change in text balloon and captions.Fortunately, there are very good surf comic authors adding creativity, humour, quality stories and perfectly designed panels and strips. Usually, surfing is in the center of the comics, but you can also beer drinking, surf shop buying and girl impressing stunts.

KIEREN PERROW WINS:THE BILLABONG PIPELINE MASTERS IN MEMORY OF ANDY IRONS

GO LIVE: KIEREN PERROW'S 20 year career and this is his 1st ASP Victory. The one every surfer wants! The peoples Champ! He was runner up last year but not this year! From Byron Bay Australia.

The Billabong Pipe Masters, the final stop of the Vans Triple Crown and the final event of the ASP Men’s World Tour, is the perfect venue for the culmination of both series. An iconic and historic wave, the Banzai Pipeline is often referred to as the best wave on the planet. Known for its perfect, heaving top-to-bottom barrels and its close proximity to shore, not only is it the perfect wave for those willing to charge, but also for the spectators on the beach.

JOHN JOHN FLORENCE WINS WORLD CUP

Today was also a dream come true for the Vans family, who brought John and the Florences into the fold when he was eight years old. At that time they recognized a child with prodigious talent, a gentle nature, and a genuine appreciation for the ocean and the fortunate opportunities it represented.

"Vans has a long tradition of family, from the Van Dorens to the Florences, and John has been part of our family since he first learned to surf," said Doug Palladini, Vans' VP of Marketing. "We are so proud of what John accomplished today, what he has done to live up to his potential this year, and we marvel at the possible impact he will ultimately have on surfing beyond his 19th year."

BUSHMAN with Aloha Update

North Shore Shaper Jeff Bushman, Big Wave Gun Specialist

North Shore of Oahu is filled with a variety of options for purchasing a new surfboard. You can find a used one on craiglist or hunt one down at a surf shop. Personally, I like to go the custom route where you place an order with a local shaper and get exactly what you want.

Jeff Bushman has shaped several boards for me and he’s someone I put a lot of trust in. He takes the time to listen and always does his best. He’s been on the north shore building surfboards for over 30 years and has grown as a shaper with several generations of surfers. When you combine that experience with his passion for surfing and drive to understand surfboards, you get one of the best shapers in Hawaii.

8-12 Foot Sunset at the Vans World Cup. Dane nabs highest total

REYNOLDS ON POINT & OUTRAGEOUS
POSTS VANS WORLD CUP HIGHEST SCORES

HONOLULU (Dec. 1, 2011) -- When he's on, he's really on. Dane Reynolds (Ventura, CA) took a gnarly Sunset day by the horns today, and put on the show of the contest in the final heat of the Vans World Cup of Surfing's Round of 64. His turns were on point, his carves were outrageous.
Bombing 10- to 12-foot Sunset was a surfer's battlefield, claiming more than its share of high seeds. While many were prepared to push themselves to the edge to advance, Reynolds did what he always does: tunes into the beat of his own drum.
