The average U.S. surfer is 34 years old and earns $75,000 per year. He has studied in the university and is currently employed. These are the main results of a study developed by G. Scott Wagner, Chad Nelsen and Matt Walker.

The first national report on the recreational, demographic and economic characteristics of surfers offers interesting data on how US wave riders live and enjoy their sport. The entire report is available, here.

Perrow Wins Billabong Pipe Masters, Florence Takes Vans Triple Crown

BANZAI PIPELINE, Oahu/Hawaii (Saturday, December 10, 2011) – Kieren Perrow (AUS), 34, has won his inaugural ASP World Tour event, taking out the Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons over fellow countrymen Joel Parkinson (AUS), 30, in four-to-six foot waves. John John Florence (HAW), 19, also found his way to the podium as the overall winner of the 2011 Vans Triple Crown.

Perrow, who finished runner-up to Jeremy Flores (FRA), 23, in last year’s Billabong Pipe Masters, returned to form again this year and charged the massive Pipeline conditions on the opening two days of competition to solidify his position on the 2012 ASP World Tour. The Australian was equally deadly in the smaller conditions on the final day and commanded the Final against Parkinson in a backdoor shootout to secure his maiden ASP World Tour victory.

The man of the entire World Cup (winner) and Pipemasters(quarter finalist) is now the man of the entire Vans Triple Crown! At 19 he becomes the youngest ever to win it.
He's truly America's great white hope for the future post Slater.
Humble and grateful as he is a huge and graceful talent 'Sir John Florence' is well postioned for 2012's ASP World Tour. Stay tuned. More to come.HERE for heat with Slater.

The 8th annual Kona Surf Film Festival celebrates a huge night

10 December, 2011 : - - The 8th Annual Kona Surf Film Festival really went off! I'm still a bit frazzled from the weekend, so I'm pretty sure that it was the busiest and best year we've had. By quite a margin. Yeah. We had a bunch of movies on two screens, visits from Shane Dorian, Rob Machado, Mike Stewart Mark Cunningham, and Mayor Billy Kenoi.

We had music from Leche De Tigre, Kimie Miner, and a surprise jam mashup from members of Pepper and Iration. We had art and breakdancers and beer and food and the overall mellow chaos that is the Kona Surf Film Festival.
