Quiksilver Pro Day 3: Did Wilko Get Robbed?

The first heat of round 3 featured Australian goofyfoots Owen Wright and Matt Wilkinson. Both surfers opened with high-scoring rides. Wilko struck first with an 8.17 and Owen answered with an 8.5 that he backed up with a 6.4.

Wilko would go on to catch two backup waves-- one at the midway point of the heat and the second just as the clock was running out. Either one could have arguably given him the score. Both waves featured committed fin-wofts and were finished as strongly as Owen's 6.4.

TAJ BURROW enjoying life as a surfer at Cloud Break

Part 2/3 of Taj Burrow's epic trip to Fiji, featuring Davies and Chippa.

Taj began his surfing days in southwest Western Australia at the age of 7. What the Yallingup area lacked in population it certainly made up for in a plethora of ledges, deadly points and powerful beach breaks. With these kind of surroundings and raised as an only child by parents Nancy and Vance, Taj and surfing meshed together well. He pulled on his first contest singlet aged 12 and after only two years he took out the under-18′s division of a local contest and didn’t look back, progressing to regular grommet and junior contests around the world in which he was rarely beaten.

Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay Downgrades from ASP World Title to ASP 6-Star for 2012

COOLANGATTA, Queensland/AUS (Friday, February 24, 2012) – The Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay, Event No. 5 of 11 on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour, has been officially downgraded to an ASP 6-Star event for 2012.

In an official statement today, Billabong said: “The change in event status follows a broader review in which we are seeking to identify cost savings throughout the business. By retaining an event at Jeffreys Bay, it now provides two qualifying events back to back in the South African region. The move to an ASP 6-Star also opens the event up to South Africa’s aspiring pro surfers for the first time in 20 years and ensures continuity of the event for the local businesses in Jeffreys Bay.”
