Despite the "Blue Crush effect" (that may be waning at the moment) surfing is dominated by X chromosomes. If surf photographers had their own clubhouse, there wouldn't even be a ladies room. And of the lensfolk who paddle into the ocean to shoot, you will rarely ever see a female treading a pair of Churchills at a heavy break.

Surf News, 15 March, 2012 : When the ASP released its official 2012 World Tour schedule in November, Fiji's happy return and the memories of last year's Teahupoo and New York City comps promised a riveting season. When we lost New York in December, half of us said good riddance to the so-called "City Tour." A few days later, an upgraded Cold Water Classic at Santa Cruz added some diversity in the form of an iconic and challenging American break. People were ogling the roster, going, "Dayumn, Tour, you look fine. Where you been hiding these past couple of years?

Surf News, 14 March, 2012 : - - Kelly Slater has revealed an interest in joining the Champions Golf Tour in the United States when he finally hangs up the surfboard. Slater a five-handicapper, joined The Golf Show host Brett Ogle for nine holes while on the Gold Coast for the ASP's Quiksilver Pro.

In an entertaining interview, Slater told Ogle about his experiences at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Alfred Dunhill Links, where last year he partnered eventual winner, Englishman Simon Dyson.

What an action packed 2 days! Sea Hawaii held it's Pipeline Women's 1 star QS and 2 star Pro Jr event on one day and North Shore Surfshop held its Men's Pipeline 2 star Pro Jr event the next day. The swell direction was little weird so the actual event was held at Gums instead of Pipe. "For the last couple of months, National Parks and Wildlife have had the gates shut to the entrance to the road that leads to the carpark above Ours due to heavy rains washing out the unsealed road," photographer Billy Morris explained. "Half of Australia is underwater right now with this La Nina pattern." "Word got out that Kelly was in town and would be surfing Ours," Morris continued. "Although it never really eventuated until the afternoon -- when conditions finally improved and the wind swung offshore."
