TARANAKI, New Zealand (Friday, April 13, 2012) – After two consecutive days of surfing at the TSB Bank NZ Surf Festival featuring the Dow AgroSciences Pro, a lay-day has been called due to unfavourable winds. The surf forecast for tomorrow looks promising and contest officials will meet at 7:30am to assess the conditions.

Stop No. 3 of 7 on the 2012 ASP Women’s World Championship Tour, the Dow AgroSciences Pro is pivotal in the chase for the prestigious ASP Women’s World Title. There are only two more heats of Round 4 remaining before competition enters the Quarterfinals and it’s likely that an event champion will be crowned tomorrow.

Save Haleiwa Farmers' Market

The Petition

The State Department of Transportation has issued a Cease and Desist order to the Haleiwa Farmers’ Market. Having operated without any issues for three years HFM owners and market managers Pamela Boyar and Annie Suite were surprised and confused at this development. Since April of 2009, the Haleiwa Farmers’ Market has been operating under a month-to-month agreement with the DOT. In February 2011 they received notice that the State Department of Transportation wanted to switch from the month-to-month agreement to a more formal annual agreement.

No One has ever answered the question " How do they survive" Verizon Wipeout Nominees - Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards 2012

The five finalists for the Verizon Wipeout of the Year category of the 2012 Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards are presented for your examination. No surfers were seriously injured in the making of this clip. For more information see the event website at www.BillabongXXL.com.
My turn: year after year Im continually astounded how these brave (crazy?) surfers survive these horrendous wipeouts. They skate over and emerse under tons of fast moving, heavy water over shallow reefs. These athletes are also moving at speeds most surfers rarely acheive. These are people like you and me, made of flesh and bone who need oxygen to live. But, that's about the only way we are similar. Notice also that they dont wear helmets!

Josh Kerr dissects then dishes on Kelly & Mick final. Josh also says Kelly would’ve won the contest if it’d been in the US. What do you think?

Josh 'The Analyst' Kerr checks out two different approaches to the Bells Bowl

Surf News, 11 April :  The world is still recovering after five electric days of surfing at Bells Beach for the 2012 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach won by Mick Fanning (AUS), 30, and Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), 21, respectively. The surf pumped, the sun shone, the winds were variable offshore and high-performance surfing in the Bowel was categorically redefined. Nowhere was this more apparent than in the Final between Fanning and reigning 11-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA), 40.

Under the Surf -Surf Movie from Kauai. A great idea!

This short video is a one of a kind! Each surf reef has its own ecosystem under the waves and these reefs are rarely documented until now. I use a small HD video camera to video the reefs at Pipeline, Wiamea Sunset Beach and other surf spots in Oahu and Kauai. The marine life and corals are different at each spot and due to rising sea levels and pollution many of our reefs are dying.
