HONOLULU - (Friday, Nov. 29, 2013) -- A macking NW swell with wave face heights of up to 20 feet on the inside has set an intimidating stage for the VANS World Cup of Surfing today. At the upper limit of its range, Sunset Beach is one of the most challenging waves on the planet. It will surely be daunting for the younger set of competitors who will hit the water this-morning, including 16-year-olds Kalani David & Seth Moniz (Hawaii), and 19-year-old Cooper Chapman (Australia). Competition is underway at 8am, with the peak of the swell due late morning. GO HERE
A good call by Marty Thomas and competitors to 'go for it' as there's plenty unreal waves being ridden. There's 15' sets out there but on the inside its totally contestable. Surf will drop a lot by Saturday in the 6-8' maybe 10' range to get day 3 of comp done. Stay tuned here. OC250. Online. Or there in person.
