Sunset Beach, North Shore, Oahu, HAWAII – (Friday, January 22, 2016) — The Sunset Pro has been called ON today in clean 4-6+ surf. A NNW swell is on hand at Sunset Beach and is forecast to hold through the day with light E winds, providing ideal conditions for the contest to run from 8am – 4pm.
The World Surf League (WSL) has sanctioned this event as a Qualifying Series (QS) 1,000, which gives local surfers the opportunity to gain valuable regional ratings points to start the season.

The first heat in the Round of 88 will see Jud Lau (HAW), Derek Ho (HAW), Laka Burgess (HAW) and Ryan Hipwood (AUS) compete, with first and second place advancing to the next round. Contest organizers expect to complete Heat 11 in the Round of 64 today.

Please anticipate an official press release, video news reel (VNR) and photo package after the competition ends for the day.

Contest officials will reconvene tomorrow at 7am to determine if the Sunset Pro Men’s QS1,000 will resume.

Aloha!
